The “Rare” pop star is the latest celebrity to participate in social media challenges to spread awareness about health and hygiene amid the novel coronavirus pandemic. On Saturday (March 21), the singer pledged her participation in the #SafeHands challenge, a World Health Organization (WHO) campaign that calls for people to use their social media platforms to encourage others to practices proper hand washing hygiene.
Gomez, nominated by author Arianna Huffington, answered the challenge with a hand washing video instructing Selenators at home the general guidelines of the 40-second process.
In the clip, the songbird, wearing a comfy pink sweater, wets her hands with after and then applies enough soap to cover her hand. Before lathering up, Gomez advises those at home to turn the facet off to save water, and proceeds to rub her right palm over her left hand and continues doing so in vice-versa before scrubbing her fingers into her palms to get underneath her nails.
Turning the facet on to rinse off, the “Lose You to Love Me” singer then towel dries her hands (while the facet is running) before using it to turn it off. “Alright, here’s my #SafeHands Challenge thanks @ariannahuff!” the superstar captioned the video, before challenging Cardi B, Gigi Hadid and Olivia Wilde to take on the challenge.
In the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak, several other celebrities have shared hand washing videos of their own, including Mariah Carey’s “Fantasy” hand washing tutorial and Gloria Gaynor’s #IWillSurviveChallenge.
