Avicii left behind more than a legacy. On Tuesday (June 9), it was announced that a tribute museum honoring the late dance music producer will open in his hometown of Stockholm, Sweden, in 2021.

The Avicii Experience will feature memorabilia, never-before-seen photos and video, and published and unpublished music including previously unreleased early versions of his era-defining EDM anthem «Levels.» The museum will also include unreleased music that served as the foundation for the posthumous Avicii album, Tim, which was released in 2019, just more than a year after the superstar producer took his own life on April 20, 2018, while traveling in Muscat, Oman.

The museum will be located in one of Stockholm’s main city squares, Sergels torg, inside a new «digital culture center» called Space, which when open will combine gaming, music and content creation. A portion of the money generated through the Avicii Experience will go to the Tim Bergling Foundation, which was created by Bergling’s parents, Klas Bergling and Anki Lidén, in the wake of their son’s death. The foundation focuses on suicide prevention among young people.

«I’ve gotten much more informed after Tim. That’s natural,» Klas Bergling, who heads the Foundation, told Billboard Dance in May. «I really didn’t know much about suicide. It’s so complicated and unpredictable regarding what people might potentially be suicidal — that’s almost impossible to see.»

Organizers of the Avicii Experience promise an «intensively emotional tribute» that follows «Tim’s journey from a reclusive music nerd to a celebrated superstar, from his boyhood room where it all started to the Los Angeles studio where the biggest hits were created.»

An opening date for the Avicii Experience has not yet been announced.
